March 11     COMMEMORATION OF THE BATTLE OF KORORAREKA
Bay of Islands iwi, the Russell community and representatives of NZ's armed forces mark the 1845 Battle of Kororareka, the firs battle of the Northern New Zealand Wars.
   
March 12 - 14     BOI ONE BASE FISHING TOURNAMENT
   
March 13 - February 14     FESTIVAL OF THE BATTLE OF KORORAREKA
Two days of fun in Kororareka-Russell. Fore mopre details visit Haratu, Russell's new cultural centre (formerly DoC) on the Russell Waterfront.
   
April 17     CAPE BRETT CHALLENGE ENDURANCE RACE
The annual Helly Hansen Cape Brett Challenge adventure run is fast becoming New Zealand's top adventure race to compete in. The event is scheduled for 17 April 2010.

This year sees the addition of the Kauri Ridge 10km Walk attainable for people of all shapes, sizes and ability looking for that extra bit of challenge. The Whangamumu 17km Classic is no longer open to walkers.

May 7 - 9     BOI COUNTRY ROCK FESTIVAL - celebrating 21 years in 2010
The Bay of Islands Country Rock Festival features good music and friendship in the stunning setting of the Bay of Islands of New Zealand - one of the top tourist spots of the country. Each year the festival features more than 45 acts from New Zealand, Nashville and Australia performing at multiple venues. Street music and line dancing are also popular features.

They came, they saw, they jumped. Crazy winged craft and creatures competing for the best, longest, most spectacular, most colourful, most inventive flight off Russell wharf.

August 13 - 15     THE PUB'S CLASSIC & KUSTOM CAR SHOW
Classic and Kustom cars on show at The Pub 'round the Corner, York St, Russell.
   
August 13 - 14     BOI JAZZ AND BLUES FESTIVAL
Every year jazz and blues musicians gather from all over New Zealand and overseas for the annual Bay of Islands Jazz and Blues Festival.

The many venues in Paihia, Waitangi and Haruru Falls host over 150 hours of quality jazz and blues during the three-day event. There are more than 40 acts featured. Street performances, in Kawakawa - Jazz on the Steam Train, Paihia and Russell each morning add to the atmosphere of the festival.

October 23 - 24     HSBC COASTAL CLASSIC REGATTA Labour Weekend
One of NZ's most famous and testing yacht races from Auckland to Russell. Will last year's record time be beaten this year or will the weather beat them all?

November 12 - 13     RUSSELL ANNUAL FLOWER SHOW
Prize winning blooms, gardens and produce - entries from the Russell peninsula community and school.
   
December 11     SOVEREIGN RUSSELL-PAIHIA OCEAN SWIM
Swim solo or in a team: three courses, the 3.3km Russell-Paihia swim, the 750m Paihia Course and the Oceankids 200m course.

With live music at various Russell venues, delicious food to take away or dine in, our gorgeous waterfront for an evening picnic, plus the spectacular BOI fireworks display at midnight, New Year's Eve in Russell is a safe and fun place to be.
